Spring-Summer collection 2023

From Tuesday 24 January until Sunday 29 January, the sets for the prestigious Dior haute couture show - spring-summer 2023 collection - designed by the African-American artist Mickalene Thomas, are open to the public with the museum entry ticket. For the duration of a week, the monumental embroidered works of the African-American artist Mickalene Thomas will be displayed alongside works by Rodin in the sculpture garden.

Artist Mickalene Thomas, who designed the set for the Dior Spring/Summer 2023 haute couture show, reveals her inspirations:

"The inspiration for this set design came from a conversation about the importance of black female figures who have become role models by breaking racial barriers and deciding to go against the grain, giving many others an example to follow. In choosing these thirteen exceptional black and mixed race women from different continents, the idea was to create a diverse and eclectic group of outstanding personalities. Where their success was hindered and rejected, where luck was not in their favour, they persevered with confidence, elegance, beauty and talent."

Created especially for the show, this structure reveals giant portraits of exceptional personalities - made with embroidery designed by the Chanakya workshops and the Chanakya School of Craft on a printed textile base - embodying a new pantheon of women.

A visit to the Rodin Museum promises an exceptional experience at the crossroads of sculpture, contemporary art and haute couture.
