The Atelier Rodin - «At The Lab!»
Artistic practice activities as part of The Atelier Rodin
As part of The Atelier Rodin, the museum offers hands-on artistic activities for families and groups in its brand-new space, «At The Lab!»
Inviting visitors to explore sculpture in all its forms, the activity program combines a look at the collections with creative practice, guided by a cultural facilitator.
1. Activity: “In Motion!”
A session to invent and capture a choreography inspired by works from the Musée Rodin collection.
Guided by a cultural facilitator, observe the gestures and emotions of the sculptures displayed in the rooms of the Hôtel Biron, then interpret these movements in a collective choreography. In «At The Lab!», capture these sequences on paper and add color to bring them to life.
Three steps: mime, move, and dance to the rhythm of the artworks!
2. Activity: “Hands-On!”
A session to explore the diversity of sculptural techniques in dialogue with the Musée Rodin collections.
Guided by a cultural facilitator, touch the materials and handle the tools used to create a sculpture, then try your hand at modeling in «At The Lab!». In the rooms of the Hôtel Biron, appreciate the full variety of techniques and materials on display.
Use your hands to transform raw material into finished form!
3. Activity: “What a Story!”
A session that brings together the works of the Musée Rodin collection and the stories that inspired them.
Led by a cultural facilitator, discover in the Hôtel Biron galleries how sculpture can embody a narrative through guided storytelling invoking Ovid, Baudelaire, or Dante. In «At The Lab!», imagine a collective story and give it life.
When characters from the past meet today’s visitors, words become material!
4. Activity: “Grab Your Pencils!”
A session to capture snapshots of the Musée Rodin collection, sketchbook in hand.
Under the guidance of a cultural facilitator, compile your ideas, impressions, and sketches inspired by the artworks, architecture, and sculpture garden. In «At The Lab!», complete your sketchbook using a rich selection of materials and techniques.
Create a personal object and leave with a lasting memory of your visit!
5. Activity: “Shaping Up!”
A session to create through combination and simplification exercises.
In «At The Lab!», a cultural facilitator guides you through Rodin’s favorite methods of assembly and fragmentation using modeling and collage. In the Hôtel Biron galleries, observe sculptures made using these same techniques.
Your final creation will reflect the questions explored and challenges embraced!
