The Studio Rodin

The Studio Rodin

The Musée Rodin presents The Studio Rodin, a unique exhibition of reproductions of sculptures made from original moulds by Auguste Rodin. Designed by the Musée Rodin for all audiences in areas far from major cultural centres, The Studio Rodin is the first exhibition to be provided free of charge and to be permanently installed in a given area.

The traveling exhibition, consisting of seven thematic sets, will be displayed in unexpected spaces such as town halls, libraries, post offices, retirement homes, and community centers. By bringing Rodin's works to these locations, the project fosters a deeper connection between the public and one of the greatest sculptors in history.

The rollout continues, and the Musée Rodin is pleased to announce that The Studio Rodin will arrive in Burgundy–Franche-Comté in December 2025, with a public presentation scheduled for the end of March 2026.

Making Rodin’s Art Accessible Across Communities

The Studio Rodin fits within the Musée Rodin’s unique model, as the holder of the moral rights to Rodin’s work. One of the museum’s primary missions is the promotion and dissemination of the sculptor’s work and its collections. This project fulfills that mission through the presentation of twenty-one reproductions of various sizes, including nineteen works by Auguste Rodin, cast from the original molds, and two works by Camille Claudel.

The reproductions, made of resin with marble patina, bronze, or plaster, are organized into seven thematic modules. Seven facsimiles of drawings and seven photographs related to the modules complete the display. Each grouping is identified by a distinct color and is designed to be presented independently.

Deeply rooted in a mission of artistic and cultural education, Le Studio Rodin also includes a mobile educational workshop for schoolchildren and young audiences, called “La Rodinothèque.”

The exhibition’s scenography and educational materials are playful and straightforward, enhancing the presentation for a unique artistic experience accessible to all. In this way, the works are made more widely available across different regions, reaching new audiences wherever the exhibition is installed.

    An exhibition and education appliance

Empowering communities with a turnkey solution

The Studio Rodin is designed to enable local governments and actors to host the exhibition with maximum autonomy. The Musée Rodin provides a comprehensive set of resources to ensure the success of each installation, including:

    • Assembly and maintenance manuals
    • Training protocols for staff
    • Detailed documentation and educational resources
    • Customizable communication kits

The exhibition has been designed to be as compact and easy to install as possible, making it adaptable to spaces not originally designed for cultural events or exhibtion projects, to facilitate transport and storage, but also with a view to minimising its ecological impact. Even the transport crates double as pedestals for the sculptures, reducing logistical complexity and environmental impact.

    Educating Through Art

    With La Rodinothèque

La Rodinothèque complements the traveling exhibition by offering seven activities that can be led by a mediator or a teacher, for example, to explore sculpture and its principles around central themes:

    • Balance
    • Modeling
    • Tools
    • Drawing
    • But also interactive quizzes, readings, and even a photo studio...

Beyond the exhibition, additional events and programs will connect visitors to the Musée Rodin in Paris and Meudon, fostering long-term relationships between the museum and local communities.

An initial deployment of the exhibition in December 2024

The first deployment of The Studio Rodin took place on December 3, 2024, as part of a partnership with the Communauté des communes Giennoises, located in the southeast of Loiret, in the Centre-Val de Loire region.

The Communauté des communes Giennoises currently comprises 11 municipalities, with a total population of 25,000, including 14,000 in the central town of Gien.

Two key pillars of the local cultural policy are:

    1. Artistic and cultural education, including theatrical, musical, and visual arts activities from early childhood, programs to re-engage middle school students, theater interventions in schools, middle schools, and high schools, as well as the “Orchestra at School” program in Gien. Artist interventions in schools are numerous.

    2. Public outreach, with programming across municipalities, off-site initiatives including in priority neighborhoods, and artistic offerings—often free—during community festivals.

Culture has contributed to improving the overall quality of life for residents of Gien (higher enrollment in institutions and increased attendance at events) as well as enhancing the attractiveness of the territory. It is on this foundation of proximity, quality, and innovation in cultural mediation that the partnership with the Musée Rodin was built.

    Summary of the First Deployment:

    • The exhibition was deployed in 10 locations within the Communauté de Communes Giennoises (Centre-Val de Loire region): at Ernest Bildstein Middle School in Gien; the town hall of Saint-Martin-sur-Ocre; the former kindergarten in Saint-Brisson-sur-Loire; the Gien tourist campsite; the Crédit Mutuel agency in Gien; the town hall of Nevoy; the Le Grand Club cinema in Gien; Les Clorisseaux Middle School in Poilly-lez-Gien; the town hall of Langesse; the Pierre Dezarnaulds Hospital in Gien; Cuiry Kindergarten and Primary School in Gien; as well as the La Chanterelle nursing home in Coullons and again at Ernest Bildstein Middle School in Gien.

    • The exhibition was displayed for three months at the Méchériki Cultural Space in Gien and was visited by 26 classes, from first grade (CP) through the final year of high school (Terminale), including 10 classes from Priority Education Networks (Réseau d’Éducation Prioritaire).

A Second Deployment in December 2025

The second installation of The Studio Rodin will take place in Burgundy–Franche-Comté in December 2025.

The Studio Rodin was designed by the teams at FREAKS and HEADQUARTER.

FREAKS is an architectural and scenographic studio. It works mainly on projects for public cultural facilities (museums, theatres, art centres, exhibition spaces, etc.) and also designs numerous exhibition scenographies.

HEADQUARTER is a visual communications agency. The studio's approach is to tackle complex subjects with simplicity. In its quest for innovation, the team works mainly with researchers, cultural venues and businesses.
