The Research Centre’s reading room is open to everyone (readers, students, researchers, art professionals and enthusiasts), by appointment only.
The reading room will be closed from 4 August to 30 September 2026 inclusive.
CONDITIONS FOR ACCESSING ARCHIVES
Some documents are subject to specific access restrictions and consultation procedures. Access may require a formal review or special permission.
- Documents requiring special permission (public archives)
Certain types of documents are subject to statutory closure periods under Article L. 213-2 of the French Heritage Code. Access before these periods expire may be granted through a request for special permission submitted to the reading room supervisor.
- Documents requiring prior authorisation (private archives)
Under Article L. 213-6 of the French Heritage Code, owners may impose conditions on access to or reproduction of archives they have donated or deposited. Archive services must comply with these conditions. Prior authorisation from the rights holders is therefore required to consult these documents.
- Documents in poor condition
Access to documents may be restricted for conservation reasons, depending on their physical condition. The reading room supervisor reserves the right to grant or refuse exceptional access.
READING ROOM GUIDELINES
Only pencils and laptops are permitted in the reading room.
Photography is not permitted.
A cloakroom is available at the entrance to the reading room.
