Apparitions and disappearances: encounter the spirits of the Musée Rodin.
On Saturday, October 31, 2026, The "Welcome to Hell” Evening returns for its fourth edition, this year exploring the world of spiritualism. This special evening event will immerse you in the tormented world of The Gates of Hell and promises an unforgettable night filled with exciting new activities.

Theatrical performance in front of The Gates of Hell
The Gates of Hell holds a special place in Rodin’s work. Working feverishly on the sculpture for several years, he brought more than two hundred figures to life. He threw himself wholeheartedly into the project, drawing inspiration first from Dante’s Inferno, before turning, from 1885 onwards, to literary references closer to his own time.
Readings and theatrical performances invite you to discover the literary and Symbolist context that inspired some of the figures in The Gates of Hell, from Charles Baudelaire to Victor Hugo.

A journey through optical illusions in the woodland
In Canto I of the Divine Comedy, Dante enters a dark forest, where he is confronted with the darkest passions of the human soul: lust, greed and pride... Armed with a lantern, dare to venture into the woodland, where shadows slip away and reflections of reality gradually begin to shift. Beware: the illusions may well play tricks on your mind.

Circus performance in the garden
At the heart of Hell, souls seem to float, rise or sink into the depths. At the very centre of the pool, the group of Ugolino and His Children embodies the ultimate descent into the ninth circle of Hell, where those guilty of treachery are condemned. Keep your eyes wide open so as not to miss a single detail of an acrobatic performance inspired by damned bodies in a perpetual state of descent and collapse.

Tarot tour through the collections
Mediumistic practices flourished in the 19th century: table-turning, communication with spirits and experiments in divination fascinated a wide audience.
With a reading from the Tarot de Marseille, create your own personalised route through the museum’s collections. Discover which of Rodin’s works resonates with the Major Arcana of this divinatory deck and let its symbols guide you through your visit.

Photography workshop
In the 19th century, the birth of photography coincided with the rise of spiritualism. This new medium seemed to offer a way of revealing the invisible: “ghosts” began to appear in photographs, fuelling both spiritualist beliefs and the artistic imagination.
Guided by a photographic artist, explore the techniques once used to make spirits and figures from the beyond appear on film.

After an evening immersed in darkness, step back into the light under the flash of our photographers. Strike a pose and take home a souvenir of the evening.

Pop-up bar: “The Third Circle”
Enter the third circle of Hell and give in to temptation with cocktails and other treats available for one night only.

Standard rate: €27
Member rate: €23. Valid membership card must be presented to access the event.

Additional information
Scary costumes are welcome during the evening. You will simply be asked to remove any masks at the entrance check.
Please note: younger visitors may be frightened by the intensity of certain scenes. Recommended for ages 13 and up.
In case of rain, the event will go ahead as planned. In case of severe weather, some activities may be moved indoors to the museum.
